Syntonics Awarded DOD SBIR Contract for Dual-Mode Antenna
dotted

COLUMBIA, MD. December 17, 2004 . . . Syntonics LLC, based in Columbia, Md., announced today it has been awarded a contract to investigate the feasibility of an innovative dual-mode antenna for the U.S. Navy, NAVSEA Command. The contract was awarded under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program managed by the U.S. Navy. Syntonics has teamed with the ElectroScience Laboratory of The Ohio State University for this work.

The Phase I project is investigating a JTRS-compliant antenna for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). The goal of the project is to develop a dual-mode antenna system that can be used by radios developed under the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program for both satellite communications and line-of-sight communications.

"This is Syntonics' fifth military antenna development project under the SBIR program in the past two-plus years," said Bruce Montgomery, president, Syntonics. "To date, every completed Phase I antenna feasibility study has been continued by the customer to the next stage and we are currently developing prototype hardware on three different projects. This success speaks to how our sponsors view the creativity and quality of our work. Further, each of these three prototype development efforts is leading to excellent commercial prospects. Production orders are expected for both of the prototyping projects that will be completed in 2005."

Syntonics designs, develops, and manufactures specialty military RF communications equipment and accessories, notably RF-over-fiber products and innovative antennas. For more information on Syntonics and its products, please see the company's website at www.SyntonicsCorp.com.
