Syntonics Expands its Technologies: Awarded DOD SBIR Contract for Wireless LAN Tools

COLUMBIA, MD. December 12, 2002 ... Syntonics LLC, based in Columbia, Md., announced today it has been awarded a technology development contract for wireless local area network (WLAN) hardware and software tools. The contract is sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Divison (NSWCCD) is the technical monitor. The tools are to be used for WLAN site surveys, installation performance validation, and troubleshooting both in shipboard and shore-side WLAN installations.

"NSWCCD is responsible for implementing wireless LANs throughout the Fleet, so the opportunity to work with them to develop WLAN survey, installation and troubleshooting tools positions us to address a growing market area," said Bruce Montgomery, president, Syntonics. "The market for connecting computers with 802.11 wireless technology is exploding and this project could lead to a significant commercial opportunities, as well as potential DOD sales. We are also pleased to add a new DOD customer to our customer base."

Syntonics develops custom RF and precision frequency and timing electronics for land, sea and space applications. Its work includes RF and optical communications systems and components, state-of-the-art antennas, precision space-qualified oscillators and highly reliable, robust GPS holdover clocks. These projects are performed for U.S. military and industrial customers.
